I remember those days of hanging out in the wide open fields of our adolescence, we ran from one end to the other, always hoping that one day, we’ll break the field and run away forever, for the whole wide world with its glamour and headlights and brilliance will be our field, but so enthused we were in breaking away from the field that we didn’t notice on the day we ran for the last time that we went away in different directions and I stopped after a million miles to look for you at my side, but I couldn’t see you there and now I look back to find you, but I can’t and I start walking towards the field in the hope that you’ve also realised I’m missing at your side and you’re walking back too, and I’ll wait for you in the wide open fields of our adolescence, raring to run again. 🎈🎈
I remember the day we planted that sapling at the edge of the field, our secret pact to return when it bore fruit, always planning to come back when it blooms, wondering whether we will be back when it stands tall, branches reaching for the same stars we once wished upon, glowing, blowing, and flowing in the wind of our youthful exuberance, ah what a sight with its lush green leaves with a tinge of yellow here and there, the dew drops on those leaves, reflecting the morning and evening sun with equal love, and we can not not see it my friend, together, and hence I’ll wait for you in the wide open fields of our adolescence, raring to run again. 🎈🎈
And I'll wait,
my friend, in this field that was once our entire universe.
I'll wait,
as seasons change, as new children discover the joy of wide-open spaces, as our footprints fade and reform. For in waiting, I've found a way to preserve that part of us that ran wild and free, forever young in the amber of memory.
When you arrive, breathless and apologetic for the delay, I'll simply smile and ask, "Race you to the other side?" And we'll run again, not away from our past or towards an uncertain future, but simply for the pure joy of running together, side by side in the wide open fields of our shared history. 🎈🎈
